Charlie Drage 1b9228e696 Switch to spf13/cobra from urfave/cli
There's A LOT happening in this commit, so here's an outline:

First off, urfave/cli has been removed in favour of spf13/cobra. With
this, comes changes to the formatting as well as the help page for
Kompose.

Upon converting, I noticed a CLI flag was NOT appearing for OpenShift.
Specifically, --deploymentconfig. This has been added with a note
that says it is OpenShift only.

Exit codes have been fixed. If the conversion / down / up fails for
any reason, Kompose will exit with Code 1.

--verbose as well as --suppress-warnings can now be set at the
same time.

app_test.go in the cli directory has been moved to pkg/transformer
to better reflect the testing coverage.

version.go has been removed and converted to it's own CLI command in
conjuction with (most) Go software. A new CLI command has been
created. kompose version

--dab isn't a conventional way for short-form CLI paramters. This
has been shortened to -b for bundle.

CLI flags consisting of only two/three letters have been removed due to
it being unconventional for CLI. For example, --dc was removed in preference
for --deploymentconfig

--replicas has been added as an option when using kompose down or
kompose up. This has been added as previously in app.go the
replica amount was hard-coded as 1.

Differentiating names have been used for flags. For example,
persistent flags use the name Global (ex. GlobalOut). Command-specific
flags have their own names (ex. UpOpt).

Kompose (Kubernetes + Compose)

kompose is a tool to help users who are familiar with docker-compose move to Kubernetes. kompose takes a Docker Compose file and translates it into Kubernetes resources.

kompose is a convenience tool to go from local Docker development to managing your application with Kubernetes. Transformation of the Docker Compose format to Kubernetes resources manifest may not be exact, but it helps tremendously when first deploying an application on Kubernetes.

Use Case

If you have a Docker Compose docker-compose.yml or a Docker Distributed Application Bundle docker-compose-bundle.dab file, you can convert it into Kubernetes deployments and services like this:

$ kompose --bundle docker-compose-bundle.dab convert

file "web-svc.json" created

file "redis-deployment.json" created

$ kompose -f docker-compose.yml convert

Installation

To install kompose, you can either go get or install the binary from a new release.

Go

go get github.com/kubernetes-incubator/kompose

GitHub release

Grab the latest release for your OS, untar and extract the binary.

Linux example:

wget https://github.com/kubernetes-incubator/kompose/releases/download/v0.1.2/kompose_linux-amd64.tar.gz
tar -xvf kompose_linux-amd64.tar.gz --strip 1
sudo mv kompose /usr/local/bin

CentOS

Kompose is in EPEL CentOS repository. If you don't have EPEL repository already installed and enabled you can do it by running sudo yum install epel-release

If you have EPEL enabled in your system, you can install Kompose like any other package.

sudo yum -y install kompose

Fedora

Kompose is in Fedora 24 and 25 repositories. You can install it just like any other package.

sudo dnf -y install kompose

Bash Completion

Running this below command in order to benefit from bash completion

$ PROG=kompose source script/bash_autocomplete

Building

Building with go

  • You need make
  • You need go v1.6 or later.
  • If your working copy is not in your GOPATH, you need to set it accordingly.

You can either build via the Makefile:

$ make bin

Or go build:

$ go build -o kompose main.go

If you have go v1.5, it's still good to build kompose with the following settings:

$ CGO_ENABLED=0 GO15VENDOREXPERIMENT=1 go build -o kompose main.go

To create a multi-platform binary, use the cross command via make:

$ make cross
